Every year, we are shocked when Christmas comes round again and the first decorations go up. And this year is no exception. For the last couple of weeks, trees have been popping up around the city as people argue “how early is too early…?”.
But now the time is finally here and the Frankfurt Christmas market officially opens on Monday. But a struggle I always have is where to get trees and decorations. There are no shortage of places selling real trees but what if you are looking for a range of artificial trees and decorations and you want somewhere to get everything in one go?
This was the case for me last year, and while I still go fishing around the local Christmas markets for random extra decorations, my ‘go-to’ solution is now a market called Sunflower Garden Centre. I can honestly say that they are the best garden centre in Frankfurt and worth going at any time of year. Ideally by car, but they are about 15 minutes on foot from Kalbach u-bahn station.

The centre has a large fresh food market with local farm produce and imported, mainly Italian, feinkost foods. After the food market, there is a regular garden centre, incidently with a really big collection of grills and barbecues, a very nice wine shop, and then for two months every year, a Christmas market. The selection of decorations is really impressive. Both unique, good quality and really wide selection of nice ideas. It is a little on the expensive side but will last for years.

And of course, there are Christmas trees. Lots of natural trees, but also a really good selection of artificial trees with a full range of different heights, so however tall your ceilings are, you should find something suitable.
Happy Chistmas shopping!
