About

I am originally from the UK and have been living in Frankfurt since 2013. I have travelled pretty much constantly for the last 20 years for work and study and haven’t been based in the UK for more than a decade. Now I work in the education industry helping other people begin their own international journeys.

Moving to Frankfurt was quite a hit and miss experience for me as so much of the information on the internet was generic information for Germany or was focused on the tourists and social life. I am sure that you will also notice that the official information from the authorities are mainly in German and can often be more confusing than helpful.

Which is why I started to write this blog. The aim is to catalogue my experiences and knowledge in Frankfurt and surrounding areas. If you are reading this page, then you have already seen that the content I post is a mixture of generic advice on Frankfurt/Germany, specific information on shops and services, and interesting events of places to go. I also got frustrated with the lack of real images of life in Frankfurt so I have included lots of pictures.

I was surprised at just how many people read the blog now, around 3000 people monthly! But don’t forget, blogging can sometimes be a lonely business, so comments and feedback are always welcome! 🙂

I hope that it gives you a few short cuts to getting things done and helps you avoid a few of the problems that I ran into as a non-German speaker setting up in Frankfurt.

  1. Hey I love the entries here and how informative they are on my city! Glad to know you have come to like Frankfurt, from what I can see. I am the Yelp Frankfurt Community Manager here and also organize get-togethers or events, so maybe it would be cool to get together and discuss our favorite places in the city? 🙂

  2. I used to live in Frankfurt from 2007 to 2009 and moved from there to the UK (but am not from the UK originally) – so the other way around!

Your blog would have been very useful then – there wasn’t much written info around for expats at that time. A lot was by word of mouth, and there was a very active expat community / social group.

I am currently revisiting Frankfurt (first time back since 2009) and looking up my old favourite places, luckily some still exist, and your blog helped me to also find some new(er) gems. Hopefully my next visit will be sooner!

    1. Thanks, I’m glad it struck a cord! There’s a lot more English language info available these days but I’m always happy to see people still reading what I write 🙂

  3. Hello, Brit, originally from Wales, here. Just wondering if there’s any regular meeting of Expats in Frankfurt city centre or Bornheim, Nordend West/Ost? Thanks for info.. Cris

    1. Hi Cris, welcome to Frankfurt! Not as pretty as wales, but we manage :)). There are a couple of regular monthly meet ups that are worth trying. First is on Internations.org where there is a regular monthly event with a couple of hundred attendees. Then there was also another event advertised monthly on Facebook all last year in the expat ffm group but I can’t find it at the moment. It’s worth signing up to the group and waiting for the next event. It seems younger and more studenty so I haven’t been personally though.

  4. Hi and thank you for our response to my query. I’ll look into your suggestions. Kind regards, Cris
