I promise that this isn’t just a list of my social calendar! Note: you’ll probably notice a gap in June with no events listed. This mostly down to the upcoming UEFA2024 taking over Germany. Other events have rescheduled.
If I have missed, something feel free to get in touch though:
26-28th April | 8th Rhein-Main Genuss & Gartenfest | Garden plants and accessories festival hosted in the grounds of the beautiful Heusenstamm Castle about 10km south of Frankfurt |
26-27th April | Craft Beer Festival | Dozens of local and regional craft beer producers decend on the Goethe University campus in Westend |
26-27th April | Cider World | Or if you prefer cider, a few minutes walk away at the Palmengarten is a competing event! |
27th April | Courtyard Fleamarket Season | Small events all over Frankfurt, starting in Niederursel, and then moving to a new district of Frankfurt every weekend. Lots of people selling used belongings and snacks. |
27th April | Early-Summer Festival at Danzig am Platz | Food, drink and stalls from local designers and handicrafters. Later in the evening, the music turns up into a dance party. |
28th April | Courtyard Fruit Festival at MainÄppelHaus | Hosted at the Lohrberg park a bit of a walk away from the end of the U4, but worth it for the nature and view of the city. |
30th Apr – 4th May | Bornheimer Wine Festival (no link, just turn up!) | One of the calendar highlights is the centre of old Bornheim turning into a showcase of regional wine for the week! |
4th May | Night of Museums | 40 cultural institutions open their doors from 10pm until 2am for performances, live music, films and shows! |
4th May | Riesling Day | 44 vendors showcasing the best Riesling wines from the region at the Palmengarten house. €27 entrance, taste all you can! |
8-17th May | Opernplatzfest | First of the big city festivals! 9 days of food, drink and music in the heart of the city! |
10-12th May | Weinfest Bad Homburg | More wine, this time in the Taunus town of Bad Homburg on the S5 line. 70 vendors on central Louisenstrasse by the castle. |
11-18th May | Green Sauce Festival | That’s right, a whole week of celebrating Frankfurt’s famous sauce for schnitzels and eggs at the Roßmarkt. Food, apple wine and music every night after work! |
17-21st May | Wäldchestag | A fairground in the forest just south of Sachsenhausen! Perfect for hot early summer evenings. Don’t try to drive, parking is a pain. Take the 60/61 bus or 20/21 Straßenbahn. |
22-31st May | Fressgassfest | 10 days of food, drink and music in front of the AlteOper. All your favourite vendors will be there as usual. |
25th May | Spring Festival at Goethe Uni | A day of tours, learning and performances at the science campus in Riedberg. Perfect for kids! |
26th May | Festival4Family | Everything for the kids at the Jahrhunderthalle. Games, shows, food, and shopping. Lots of parking available but better by train. |
20-21st July | Osthafenfest | Music, lights and parties in the summer evenings! A chilled out way to spend the weekend down on the river. |
26th Jul – 11th Aug | Summer Theatre Festival | The Sommerwerft is a 2 week festival of theatre, music and dance on the south-east bank of river. Something every evening, but weekends are best, especially for kids. |
3-6th Aug | Wine Festival Oberursel | Another Weinfest up in Oberursel this time. Small but nice atmosphere and a great opportunity to get out of Frankfurt for the evening. The U3 will drop you off in the right place. |
2-5th Aug | Mainfest | Another of the big ones! Both sides of the river will be taken over by fairground rides and music shows. The whole city will show up so be prepared for a crowd. |
8-11th Aug | Christopher Street Day | 3 day party celebrating the LGBTIQ+ community at Konstablerwache. A little later this year due to UEFA2024. |
9-18th Aug | Bernemener Kerb | Frankfurt’s oldest street festival, running for the 417th time since 1606, and now sadly under threat. Live music, food and a historical flair. Not to be missed! Baumhoch! |
9-18th Aug | Apple Wine Festival | The original Apfelweinfest in Roßmarkt! The drink that put Frankfurt on the map (or something like that) and needs a full 9 days to truly enjoy and learn about the history and production |
16-18th Aug | Main Matsuri Japan Festival | This is perfect for all Japan lovers. Traditional and modern culture from Japan. Lots of food, performances and shops. Used to be in Frankfurt but just moved down the river to Offenbach. |
23-25th Aug | Museumsuferfest | Its the one we’re all waiting for! A long weekend of museums and art galleries opening their doors and the banks of the river covered in food and drink vendors from all over the world. |
28th Aug – 6th Sep | Rheingauer Wine Market | Back to the wine. Fressgass will fill up with all the best wines from the local Rheingau vineyards |
6-22nd Sep | Dippemesse im Herbst | Two weeks of fairground fun for the family near the Ice-Sport arena in the east. |
18th Sep – 13th Oct | Frankfurt Oktoberfest | For anyone who can’t make it to Munich for the real thing, Frankfurt has a fairly decent alternative near the football stadium. I wrote about it a few years ago here |
20-22nd Sep | Coffee Festival | 3 days for the coffee lovers over at the Klassikstadt! Everything you wanted to know about coffee and courses to become a home barrista! |
28th Sep | Marché de Nuit | A night market at the zoo in the east of the city. Vintage and boutique fashion and design take over the building for an atmospheric evening! |
4-6th Oct | 4th Burlesque Festival | Something a little different for a change, over at the Jahrhunderthalle. 3 nights of shows and workshops. |
16-20th Oct | Frankfurt Book Fair | October’s highlight is the Buchmesse, the oldest book running book fair in the world, as always with a dedicated manga and cosplay hall… |
27th Nov onwards | Weihnachtsmarkt | Doesn’t really need too much introduction! Let’s drink some Glühwein! |
I know, there are a few festivals and events missing in March and April, but I started late. Maybe next year I’ll do this early enough to include the first few.
Who says nothing ever happens in Frankfurt? Enjoy the year of parties! And if you found this useful, feel free to contribute and buy me a coffee/beer. Blogging is thirsty work!
