I had to look back now to see just how long it has been since I started searching for a good tailor in Frankfurt and it turns out that it is over a year! This time, even I am impressed with my own dedication to finding a bargain…!
I wrote about my experiences about 6 months ago and it wasn’t particularly positive. I tried a number of tailors with the following results:
- online tailor was unrealiable;
- €100/shirt tailor was average quality;
- €150/shirt tailor is just getting close to good quality but its really not worth it.
In the meantime I got lucky though with another lead. I heard about another tailor, Tailor On Ten, who are based out of Bangkok but do a European roadshow in London and Zurich. And now after a little persuasion from yours truly, Frankfurt from 6-8 June.
Before I get to that though, some details on the tailor. The outfit is run by a Canadian and a German who set up in Bangkok to take advantage of the low overheads but with top quality materials. For Thailand the prices are high, but for us they are still very reasonable. From €55 for a shirt and from €399 for a suit. Admittedly, this is for the cheapest quality material they have on stock, but it is still very respectable for most people.
After travelling to Zurich to get measured and to chose materials, it took 6 weeks for the clothes to be delivered direct by DHL. I ended up paying about €65 per shirt and €700 for a suit, with an additional €100 postage. The quality of both lived up to expectations and I had immediate admiring comments from colleagues in the office.
I was concerned about not having a second fitting on completion, but the tailor was really good about it. They sent over one shirt first, I sent back photos showing it was slightly too tight, and they remade the shirt and sent the rest. They also paid for the minor alteration when the suit trousers were slightly too short in the leg.
On the whole, an excellent experience and I have heard the same from other customers. So since I have a vested interest in getting my new tailor to come to Frankfurt regularly I want to make sure that they have plenty of customers here! If you are interested in getting a booking, drop me an e-mail or contact them directly in order to get an update on when they are open for bookings. And don’t forget to mention where you read about them!
